• install openvpn (e.g. sudo apt install openvpn)
• copy/move the VPN config file to /etc/openvpn/ and rename it, if necessary, to have a .conf extension
• start the connection using

sudo openvpn /etc/openvpn/<your-vpn-config.conf>
